Policy
Privacy
Wizarding Journal does not ask you to create an account. There is no comment box and no mailing list on this site.
Theme
The light or dark choice is stored in local storage as wj-theme. It never leaves the browser.
Trivia and streaks
Checking a trivia answer sends the question id and the choice you clicked, so the server can mark it. A daily streak lives in local storage as wj-streak and never leaves the browser. The daily riddle sends the guesses you type so the server can mark them. The answer is not on the page. A riddle streak lives in local storage as wj-riddle-streak, and the guesses for the current day as wj-riddle-board. Those stay on this device. The server does not keep a riddle profile.
Sorting, theory votes, and a browser cookie
The sorting sitting sends your answers so the server can score them. The lean is not written to a house counter. Believe-it / bunk votes are one per theory per browser. To remember that without an account, the site sets a cookie named wj_id — a random id. We store a hash of it, not a profile. A coarse hourly counter, also hashed, slows repeated writes from one network. How far you have read is stored as wj-through in local storage and, when you set it, in a cookie so the next page can hide later books. Clearing site data resets these.
Other quizzes
The wand and Patronus sitting is scored in the browser. Those cards are not written to an account, because there is no account.
Cookies
The site sets a cookie named wj_id when you cast a theory vote or send a contact note, so one browser can be counted once. It sets wj-through when you choose how far you have read, so the next page can blur later books. Both are first-party cookies on wizardingjournal.com, with SameSite=Lax. On HTTPS they are also marked Secure. Local storage also holds the theme, the trivia streak, the riddle streak, the day’s riddle board, and the house lean from the parlor sitting. You can clear them in the browser.
Contact messages
The contact form stores your name, email address, message, and the time it arrived in our database. We use that to read the note. We do not sell the message or use it to build an advertising profile of our own.
Advertising and Google AdSense
The site may show third-party ads, including Google AdSense. Those companies can set or read their own cookies, and they may use data about your visit to measure or personalize ads under their own policies. Google’s description of how advertising cookies work is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. We do not control those cookies. Our ads.txt file names the one AdSense publisher account allowed to sell ads on this site.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which pages are read. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies whose names start with _ga and sends visit data to Google under Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). In the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, analytics and ad storage default to denied, so those cookies are not set. We do not build a reader profile of our own from page views.
Cloudflare, which hosts the site, may process request data to run and secure the network. If a third-party ad loads, that advertiser may measure the ad in its own system. That measurement is theirs, not a journal we keep.
Logs
The site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may log requests as part of operating the network. Those logs are infrastructure, not a reader profile we build.
