Book 1 · Philosopher’s Stone · Chapter 17
The Man with Two Faces
Did you notice?
The helpful teacher was the year’s thief, wearing a colleague. Quirrell and what he carries are the double face of the title. The mirror gives the Stone to someone who wants it found and not used, which pays off the earlier warning. A touch burns the antagonist. Love is described as a protection with rules, not as a mood.
Foreshadowing
Shared wand cores, a body that fails, and a return anyway are all implied by how unfinished this defeat feels. The end-of-year feast restores house points as a moral scoreboard — comforting, and a little too neat beside what almost happened.
