Erumpent
A heavy horned beast. The horn explodes if it is provoked, or if courtship goes badly.
An erumpent looks like a rhinoceros designed by someone who disliked caution. The horn and the fluid in it are explosive. The bestiary’s joke is that mating season is a public hazard. Poachers still want the fluid, which tells you the hazard has a price.
Film appearances play the explosion for slapstick and for contraband. The canon-of-the-beastiary point is simpler: do not jostle the horn. Whether a particular film’s mating dance ‘counts’ beside the seven novels is a category error. It is film business.
