Niffler
A pouch-nosed thief that treats anything shiny as already collected. Famous from the bestiary, and louder in the creature films.
A niffler is a long-snouted creature with a pouch and no sense of property. Coins, buttons, and gallery fittings all qualify. The companion bestiary files it as a pest with a talent. The films promote that talent into a running joke and a plot device: a case that will not stay shut around treasure.
Canon, with a label: the creature is book-of-beasts material more than school-novel material. The films are a separate telling. This note does not copy either text.
