The Crimes of Grindelwald
Contested
A rally, a family argument, and a bloodline the films kept rewriting.
The second film moves the chase to Paris. Grindelwald is loose, collecting followers with a speech about wizard rule, and the people who might stop him are busy with a family tree. Newt is still more interested in creatures than in politics, which the film treats as a character fact and then punishes.
Credence, the obscurial from New York, is offered a name and a parent. The film’s answer is not the answer the next film keeps. That revision is the reason this page stamps the parentage as contested: the serial disagrees with itself, and neither version is a fact of the seven school novels. Dumbledore’s refusal to fight Grindelwald directly is given a cause the films can photograph. The novels had left that cause in shadow.
Leta Lestrange’s history, a circus, a brother, a ministry career: the film spends its middle on those rooms. A beast still matters — a zouwu, a water escape — but the picture has become a political melodrama. Read it as film story. Do not file a line of dialogue from it as something the school books settled.
