Book 1 · Philosopher’s Stone · Chapter 6
The Journey from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters
Did you notice?
A public station, a solid barrier, a scarlet train. The platform number is the far side of a wall between nine and ten, which tourists still confuse with a real track. On the train, friendship is compartment politics: sweets, a large family, and a girl looking for a toad who will run the group’s research forever.
Foreshadowing
The train remains the year’s door, and later a battlefield of its own. The boy who shares the sweets is also the reader’s guide to a culture Harry does not have. That job gets heavier as the fame gap widens.
