Headmaster
Albus Dumbledore
Headmaster of Hogwarts for most of the school story: brilliant, fond of sweets, and more willing to withhold a plan than a frightened child would like.
Dumbledore is the adult the early books offer as safety. He wears absurd robes, speaks softly, and seems to know the castle’s secrets including the ones students think they invented. He is also a general in a war that paused, which the opening tone only half admits.
The journal’s early note stops at the office: phoenix, lemon sweets, a habit of giving information late. Whether that habit is wisdom or harm is one of the series’ real arguments.
Later in the story
His history, his family, and the end of his headmastership are late-book material. A settled reading and a bitter one can share the same facts. See the margin only when you have reached those pages.
