Student

Hermione Granger

A Muggle-born student who treats the library as a moral instrument and refuses to let the boys improvise alone.

Hermione arrives knowing the textbooks and almost nobody. She is bossy on the page in a way the story respects: rules, research, and the nerve to tell her friends when they are being stupid. Gryffindor gets her, which matters, because the house’s public story is daring and hers is often preparation.

Her parents are not magical. The books use that fact as a person, not a slogan, and they also show the slur other characters reach for. She argues with the world as it is, including the way house-elves are used.

Later in the story

Her campaign for house-elves, and the ways the later war uses her plans, sit further along. The early portrait is the student who will not skip the reading.
