Ron Weasley
The youngest son in a large, poor, loyal family. Harry’s first friend on the train, and the person who knows the castle as a home rather than a discovery.
Ron is how the story explains wizarding ordinary life: hand-me-down robes, a crowded house, a mother who shouts by enchanted letter, and a chess set that is not a metaphor until it has to be. He is funny, status-anxious, and brave in the specific way of someone who has always shared a room.
He is sorted into Gryffindor with his brothers’ shadow already on the stool. The books are interested in what it costs to stand next to a famous friend and still be the one who shows up.
Later in the story
Jealousy, return, and the last hunt are later arguments about him. Early on he is the friend who shares the sweet and the worry.
