Dungeons
Potions classrooms and the Slytherin common room, under the lake’s idea of daylight.
The dungeons are cold on purpose. Potions is taught down here, and Slytherin’s common room looks out into lake water. The architecture takes a side: one house lives in the basement of the school’s mood. A diagram can show the level. It cannot show the politics, which is why the house pages exist.

Threads that pass through here
- Settled in the storyHow did the Death Eaters get into Hogwarts in the sixth book?
Peeves smashes one cabinet as a favour in book two. A bully vanishes into it in book five and comes back with a story. By book six, Draco Malfoy has turned the pair into the hole in Hogwarts' defences.
- Settled in the storyWhen was Slytherin's locket first mentioned?
A heavy locket nobody could open was thrown out with the rubbish at Grimmauld Place two books before it mattered. The trail runs from that cupboard through a pawnshop, a ministry office, and a thief's stash to the sword that finally opened it.

- SpeculationThe Trace monitors accidental magic, not wands—underage control is the crime
The Trace detects loss of control, not spellcasting. It flags when young wizards let magic slip, which is why rule-followers get caught and purebloods raised among adults do not.
